Help
You must register with the Police if –
- You are from one of the following countries or you are Stateless – Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen
AND
any one of the following conditions also apply:
- Your visa has the requirement to register
- You are in the UK and switching to a visa which requires you to register
- Your visa is for longer than 6 months
- You are 16 years or older
Important Notes
You could be fined £5,000 and jailed for 6 months if you do not register in accordance with your visa requirements.
Late registration could affect any future visa applications
New Registration
You must register with the Police if any of the following apply –
- On entering the UK your visa states 'Police Registration Within 7 Days of Arrival'
- The remarks section on the back of your Biometric Residence Permit states 'Register/Report to Police'
- If you are already in the UK and applying for 'Leave to Remain' or 'Extension of Leave to Remain' and are notified in writing that you are subject to the Police Registration scheme
If you are a New Registration, you must bring the following:
- Passport
- £34 cash
- Offer letter from University/CAS or employment contract
- Proof of address e.g. Tenancy agreement/letter confirmation from University (including room number)
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
Change of Details
If you have already registered with the Police and have a Police Registration Certificate you are required to update your certificate if any of the following changes occur –Change of Address (locally). You must bring the following:
- Police Registration Certificate
- Proof of address e.g. Tenancy agreement/letter confirmation from university including room number
- Passport
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
Change of College/University/Course/Employment. You must bring the following:
- Police Registration Certificate
- Offer letter from University/CAS or Employment contract
- Passport
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
Change of Marital Status. You must bring the following:
- Police Registration Certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Passport
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
Visa Update. You must bring the following:
- Police Registration Certificate
- Passport
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
Passport Update. You must bring the following:
- Police Registration Certificate
- Passport
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
Request New Certificate
Requesting a New Police Registration Certificate if it has been Lost or StolenPlease note your Police Registration Certificate is a legal document.
You will be asked about the circumstances surrounding the loss or theft of your certificate during your appointment with the Police.
Only apply once all methods of finding the certificate have been exhausted.
Transfer from Another Force
If you have already registered with the Police in another force area and have now moved to this area, you must update your Police Registration Certificate with this information. You must bring the following:
- Police Registration Certificate
- Passport
- Proof of address e.g. Tenancy agreement/letter confirmation from university including room number
- Offer letter from University/CAS or Employment contract
- Visa/Identity card/Home Office Decision Letter showing the requirement to register with the Police
